Privacy and local data
You can practise without an account. Questions and answer checks run in your browser. Your typed answers are not sent to a marking service.
About this site
GCSE ChemistryHelp is part of Chemistry Help UK. For a question about your data, use the existing Chemistry Help UK feedback form and mention GCSE ChemistryHelp. You do not need to include your school, full name or typed answers in a question report.
Saving progress is your choice
Saving is off until you choose it. Until then, your history stays on the open page and is lost when you leave or reload it.
If you save progress, this browser stores the activity, question number, selected course, result, help used, bookmarks and activity times. It does not store your typed answers in that history. Saved history can hold up to 1,000 entries. It stays on this device until you delete it or the browser clears it.
You can export your history to a file or import a progress file. Anyone who receives an exported file can read its history. Import checks the file before replacing your current history; it does not upload the file to a server. Delete saved progress removes this site's saved history and turns saving off. On a shared device, delete your history when you finish.
Question links and reports
A question link contains its question number and selected course. It contains no name or typed answer. The report box gives you question details to copy; it does not send a report. The separate feedback form has its own data handling.
Anonymous site statistics
We count page loads and actions such as starting a question, checking an answer, showing a hint or solution and opening another question. Totals are grouped by activity, selected course and broad referral source. For checked answers, we count whether the result was correct, incorrect or unassessed, and whether help had already been used. We also count the first answer we can assess for each question shown, including precision-only errors and whether help was used. The totals can be broken down by activity and question type. Short-round statistics include how many rounds start and finish and the combined results of finished rounds. These counts do not identify pupils or follow anyone from one question to another.
The analytics code does not send your typed answers, progress file, name, IP address, full referral URL or a unique identifier. We do not set an analytics cookie or follow your activity across visits. The server stores combined daily totals, not a list of individual visits. The statistics help us decide which lessons and exercises to improve.
The site respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track browser settings. You can also switch these optional statistics off below. The choice is saved only in this browser; it is not sent to a server. Switching them off stops future events, but cannot remove previously combined anonymous counts. Statistics are retained for up to 400 days, with old files removed during normal site use. Hosting access logs are separate.

Hosting and connection information
Hostinger hosts this site and provides its content delivery network (CDN). When you visit, those services receive connection details such as your IP address, requested page, browser details and the time. Hostinger automatically records web requests in access logs. These services deliver pages and help keep the site secure.
The site has no advertising trackers, pupil accounts or live AI calls. Hostinger/CDN logs are separate from our anonymous site statistics and your optional saved progress. The hosting log retention period has not yet been confirmed. Deleting saved progress does not erase hosting logs or past aggregate statistics.
Google Search Console is used to check how the site appears in Google Search. Domain verification is held in DNS. This site does not use Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager.
For questions about hosting data, retention, access or deletion, use the feedback form above. Hostinger's privacy policy explains its own processing. You can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office about data protection concerns.
